I’m sorry, I love the city of Cleveland and their sports teams, but I give up.

Cleveland is cursed! Cleveland has the longest title drought of any city with 3 major sports teams. Its been so long since a Cleveland team has won anything I had to check Wikipedia to make sure I had my facts straight. The last time a Cleveland team won anything was 1964 when the Browns won the NFL championship. I don’t even want to count that because it was pre Super Bowl. The last time a Cleveland team won a real title was 1948 when the Indians won the World Series. My parents weren’t even born yet. The Browns have never won a super bowl, the Indians have the second longest drought in MLB, and the Cavaliers have never won a Championship. Even the short lived Cleveland Barons of the NHL couldn’t win a title.

The worst part isn’t even how long its been, but how close we have come to winning, or at least getting to a title game. In case you need a refresher: The Drive, The Fumble, The Shot, Jose Mesa, The Spurs sweep, and so on. If you live in Cleveland you know what can go wrong, will go wrong. No lead is ever safe.

Some supernatural force has something against Cleveland. Some higher being enjoys torturing Cleveland sports fans.

The torture is getting worse. Just examine the last year. The Browns won only 4 games, the Cavaliers got swept in the finals, and the Indians lose the ALCS to Boston after having a 3-1 series lead. Oh, thats not all. Cleveland fans adopted hope, the Ohio State Buckeyes, get blown out by Florida in the National Title game in both football and basketball.

Will a Cleveland team win a title during my lifetime? Is seems the closer we get, the further away we really are. Cleveland’s sports failures appear to reflect the failures of Cleveland as a city-poverty, poor education, pollution and joblessness. Will anything ever work out for Cleveland?

I hope so, but I’m not counting on it.
