The Heat thought Shaquille O'Neal's bruised hip was okay. Shaq even suited up for Sunday's game in Memphis, but didn't play. He'd been expected to return to the rotation Tuesday in Minnesota.

It won't happen, though, as Shaq left the team to pursue medical treatment in Los Angeles, reports the Miami Herald. No idea on what said treatment might include. (Assume it won't be Marvin's prescription at your own risk.) Shaq tells the Herald he recently ended his regimen of cortisone shots, and refers to those as a "last resort." That seems to indicate surgery or months-long rest aren't options, since you'd think a big needle would be preferable to either.

Much has been/will be made of Shaq's lagging performance in the face of more than $20 million in salary. Yes, O'Neal is woefully overcompensated based sheerly on production. But Stephon Marbury is earning $100,000 more than Shaq this season. And Chris Webber is getting paid slightly less by a team he hasn't played for in more than a year.
