Yesterday's quick hit on Charlotte's upswing spurred a question from the Reverend Dan Shanoff of The Sporting Blog regarding Gerald Wallace's precarious position among the NBA's finest. (Or more specifically: Why didn't Crash draw more intere$t last summer as a free agent?) Clearly, Wallace is (eternally) underrated. Does that explain his muted value?

Well, it's more than being underrated based on his contributions. Wallace defies the league's standards. He's a perfect cult player, but that's obviously not the common NBA belief system. He can't really shoot consistently, he's more of an explosive defender than a lock-down, Bruce Bowen-type. He screams talent, but not reliable centerpiece. And his game is so non-fluid... if he were a college freshman, Jay Bilas would chirp Gerald Wallace doesn't know how to play the game.
