Pro Bowl May Be Getting More Irrelevant

There's no worse all-star game than the Pro Bowl. The MLB all-star game is an anticipated mid-season break, one so important that any player who decides to skip it gets heaped with scorn. The NBA all-star game is usually good for a couple of memorable moments, and the entire weekend is one of the biggest parties of the year. Heck, even the NHL all-star game is good for some quality skating.

But the NFL Pro Bowl is the world's worst afterthought. A week after watching the Giants pull off one of the greatest upsets in NFL history, we're supposed to get excited about seeing NFL stars halfheartedly wander through a game where the defenses are limited and hard-hitting is secretly discouraged? The lack of interest also explains why nine of the 22 Pro Bowl starters didn't show up.

But now the NFL might figure out a way to make the Pro Bowl even less relevant. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is looking to move the Pro Bowl from Hawaii. Goodell would bring it back to the States to play it the week before the Super Bowl at the same site.

Moving the game from Hawaii would take away the free week-long vacation for Pro Bowlers. Take away that vacation and a whole lot of players might find some bumps and bruises that will keep them from playing.

"Coming to Hawaii is something to play for," quarterback Jeff Garcia said. "Players like to come here because it's like a reward to get away and experience something new. A lot of players, especially those who grew up in the East Coast, have never seen anything like this place and once they get here, they love it ...
