Remember when it would have been laughable for a company to make Giants quarterback Eli Manning's status as a clutch player the focal point of a major advertising campaign? If your memory goes back more than a month then yes, you do.

But a lot has changed in the last month, and now Manning is the star of the new Gatorade "League of Clutch" commercial:

It's a pretty cool commercial, all things considered, capitalizing on the famous Manning to Tyree play, and the League of Clutch web site has some nice bells and whistles. I do worry that we might all be going a little overboard in our praise of Manning, though. I thought he played very well in January and had a big game in the Super Bowl, but I also think he's got a ways to go before he's one of the 10 best quarterbacks in the NFL, and when Madison Avenue wants to make a guy out to be a great player before he's done it on the field for a sustained period of time, that player is being set up for a fall.Permalink | Email this | Comments
