As players continue to file in to the Bobby Mattick Training Center in Dunedin, Florida, we've finished up with the guys who will comprise the 2008 Battery and are ready to start tossing the ball around the infield. We need to do it gently though, as there is always the chance that one of these frail fellows could end up on the Disabled List if we throw the ball too hard.

First Base: Lyle Overbay (.240, 10 HR, 44 RBI)
Just like Closer BJ Ryan, Year Two in Toronto for Lyle Overbay was a nightmare. The sweet swinging lefty who had never batted lower than .276 in his career battled injuries and inconsistency to hit .240 in 122 games last season. What made everything worse was that Overbay had such a terrific debut the year before, notching career highs across the board (.312, 22, 92) while playing Gold Glove caliber defense.

Heading into 2008, Overbay is one of a number of Jays hoping to steer clear of the injury bug and prove that 2007 was an abnormality and the Jays better hope that is the case. While veteran Matt Stairs is on had and will see some time covering first base, Overbay's glove work is almost more valuable to the Jays than his bat and will be even more important now that noodle-armed David Eckstein has come to town.

Overbay needs to get back to being the high average, doubles hitter that he was at the outset of his career, when he led the league in 2004 with 53 doubles. Playing that way led to a career season in 2006 and there is no reason to believe that in a lineup equally as talented this season, matching or exceeding those numbers isn't a possibility.

Second Base: Aaron Hill (.291, 17 HR, 78 RBI)
D'you know how every year you look back at the season and somebody makes you do the old 'Really? He had (fill in impressive stat here)?' A couple year's back it was Minnesota's Michael Cuddyer and his 109 RBI. 'Really? Cuddyer had 109 RBI?' This year for me, it's Aaron Hi...
