As birthday cake and Superman stole our attention Saturday night, David Stern's comments about the arena situation in Seattle fly under the radar. Maybe they're no surprise, but this passage is still pretty darn forceful.
"It's apparent to all who are watching that the Sonics are heading out of Seattle," Stern said during his annual All-Star weekend press conference. "I accept that inevitability at this point. There is no miracle here."
The past six months has seen unending rumor emanating from the Emerald City regarding potential deals to fix KeyArena or insisting a local buyer would take over the team from Clay Bennett and make it work in Seattle. Previous statements may have indicated Stern was playing a bit of hardball to speed up the local efforts. This statement cannot be construed as such.
