Perhaps pondering Hawaii during another crummy East Coast winter will ease the pain of gloves and long johns. Or, Lee Diekemper recapping the night in the NHL will be the solution.

Detroit 4, Colorado 0: The Wings snapped a six-game skid but paid a price - defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom was lost in the first period to a right knee injury after taking a hard check along the boards. Wings' goalie Dominik Hasek (hip flexor) and defenseman Brian Rafalski (groin) could return from injury soon.

New Jersey 5, Carolina 1: The surging Devils have won six of their last nine and starting to think Stanley Cup. Look out Ottawa, Pittsburgh and Carolina.

New York Islanders 3, San Jose 2: The Islanders got a big win to stay in the playoff hunt with three unanswered goals in the third. Radek Martinek gave Sharks goalie Evgeni Nabokov a bloody face and stitches with a puck to the mask, but he returned to the game. What a man!

Phoenix 4, Los Angeles 0: The Coyotes win gives Wayne Gretzky his 100th victory as coach. Coyotes goalie Mikael Tellqvist stopped all 34 shots.
