Another Flyers loss, another extended injury report. The team has clearly hit its lowest point to date, losing its seventh straight game and two more players due to injury. During Saturday's game, Steve Downie hit his head on the ice, but continued to play, and Ed Moran reports that when Downie woke up yesterday morning, he was experiencing concussion symptoms. The winger sat out last night's game, and it's not yet known when he'll return.

With several players on the shelf, the Flyers called up Denis Tolpeko from the Phantoms, and they even resorted to running defenseman Lasse Kukkonen at the wing. Unfortunately, Tolpeko took a hard hit and had to leave the game, also with a concussion.

Coach John Stevens is giving the weary team the day off from practice today, although my guess is he's not letting injuries be an excuse for sloppy play. Stevens was clearly frustrated with Jim Vandermeer again last night, and who can blame him? Vandermeer, an acquisition we still can't understand, made a costly mistake for the second time in three games. With a tight first period coming to a close, Vandermeer thought he had a fight in the works, and stayed deep in the Canadiens' zone. The fight didn't go down, and the Habs took a 2-on-1 the other way for an easy goal on a high-and-dry Antero Niittymaki.

And of course the road isn't getting any easier, with the Flyers headed to Ottawa to face the Senators tomorrow night, and San Jose coming to the Wach on Thursday.

Congrats to Riley Cote on his first goal last night.
