Today is one of the most glorious days of the year. Baseball playoffs kick off with a triple-header. It's up there with Opening Day, first weekend of March Madness, and the new Lost season. I plan on celebrating the occasion by joining my friends at a local watering hole at 3PM to root against the Phillies. But before all that madness, we must take a moment to congratulate Dmitri Young for winning Comeback Player of the Year.

He single-handedly made the Nats (almost) worth watching this season. With his big belly, ‘froed out hair, awesome nickname, photogenic sons, and .320 batting average, it was impossible not to love this guy. Plus, my man speaks his mind. On Bonds chasing No. 756: 'Whoopdee-Woo':

The Post has a nice little article about Meat Hook winning the award, including a look at next season when Nick Johnson is likely to take over at firstbase once again:

Now, the questions are about the future. Young said yesterday he would adhere to a diet that would help him lose weight and control his diabetes in the offseason. If he does, he said, 'I can play some outfield,' something he hasn't done since 2005. … Manager Manny Acta has said he has no intention of playing Young in the outfield.

No disrespect to Manny, but if Da Meat Hook says he can play some outfield, then he can play some outfield. Besides, we've been looking for an everyday centerfielder all season.
