Anyone who watched this year's ALCS will have a hard time forgetting J.D. Drew's first inning at-bat in game 6: 2 outs; bases loaded; a huge scoring opportunity slipping away; a game deciding grand slam. J.D. Drew was awesome and the fans agree.

Drew's dramatic grand slam was voted as the Postseason Play of the Year in MLB.com's annual The Year in Baseball awards, as voted by the fans.

What the grand slam stands as, aside from the greatest play of the 2007 postseason - I would have voted for Jacoby Ellsbury stealing second base and winning free tacos for the nation - is the shining moment of a successful postseason for Drew. Drew hit .333 in the World Series and .360 in the ALCS. Of course his postseason average of .314 was lower than Kevin Youkilis, David Ortiz, Mike Lowell, Ellsbury, Manny Ramirez and Daisuke Matsuzake - he went 1 for 3 -, but all of these gentleman had extraordinary postseasons and it's hard to say that a .314 postseason batting average is shabby.

The fact of the matter is that Drew struggled in his first season with the Red Sox and he will have to improve if he ever wants the fans to be accepting of his contract.

If Drew can carry the success he had in the postseason into the 2008 regular season, everyone will get a chance to experience the awesomeness of J.D. Drew.  If he can't, he will have to deal with more of Spencer Kyte calling him a 'vagina' (comment 1).
